Van Consignment Program
For Van Owners
Wandervans is expanding to become a major peer-to-peer campervan rental market player! We are now opening up our platform to existing van owners who already own a van or two and want to capitalize on the rental expertise of Wandervans. To spark faster growth in many new and existing markets that we operate in, we are now allowing our fleet operators to manage and rent vans that are owned by 3rd parties. Therefore, these vans are taken on consignment by the local/regional Wandervans rental management operators.
We are essentially offering asset management for you and have created a platform that will allow us to help you maximize revenues for your campervan. Another way to think about this is by comparing the service to more traditional property management services, or Vacation rental management. People who own these assets have busy lives, they need assistance to help manage their property by putting it in the hands of an experienced manager, the owners are therefore able to still enjoy using the asset, plus be able to generate some cash flow without having to deal with all of the hassle and stresses associated with managing a property.
Many van owners simply won’t list their vehicles on peer-to-peer platforms since they are too busy with their own jobs, families, and busy lives. Most van owners don’t have the time for cleaning, customer service, oil changes, etc. We at Wandervans are therefore seeking out campervan owners who want to generate some income from their campervans and offer to list their vans on the Wandervans website for rent (for a fee).
The options we are currently offering to Van Owners for management services include the following:
LISTING ONLY - Wandervans assists 3rd Party Campervan owners by listing their van for rent on the Wandervans website. Our management operators will charge a listing fee for this service but will not provide any further assistance. The fleet manager will handle customer service through the booking process, but then they’ll hand it off to the van owner. Our standard listing fee has been set at 25%.
PARTIAL MANAGEMENT – Our experienced Fleet managers will conduct the listing assistance PLUS they’ll also offer to conduct the cleaning of the vehicles upon return, and or prior to the next rental departure. Plus the fleet management agent can optionally also provide the pickup and drop off location for the customer (if you have one). This is also done for a fee. Our partial management fee has been set at 30%, but can be adjusted depending on what is needed by the Campervan owner.
FULL MANAGEMENT – Our Fleet manager in your region will take possession of your campervan and add it to their fleet for the entire rental season. There are many van owners who request Wandervans to take full control of their vehicle and have us provide a full suite of management services including rental, cleaning, storage, customer service, etc. Our Full Management fee has been set at 38%, but can be adjusted depending on what is needed by the customer. We also allow the van owner to block out days/weeks that they plan to utilize their van during the busy rental season. This way you still get to use your van when you want it, but then allow Wandervans to manage it for you while you don’t need it. We are super selective on Campervans that we will take under full management. Our ideal van type is something with low miles, easy to operate for customers, and not too many moving parts.
By allowing our Fleet Managers to assist Campervan owners in their respective regions, we are separating ourselves from traditional peer-to-peer rental websites where they aren’t able to offer any hands-on management services. At Wandervans, we will be offering a diversity of Campervan models so that local customers have more options to choose from. So…if you own a van and are tired of doing all of the management, why not let us take over for a while?
how does insurance work?
You’re here because you are thinking about renting out your camper van, therefore you’ll want to fully understand how insurance coverage works on any of the peer-to-peer platforms you might be considering using. What happens if your vehicle is involved in an accident? What if there is a minor fender bender? It happens, but it’s not as common as you think.
When you rent out your campervan with Wandervans, your vehicle is covered by our 3rd party insurance. This is an important topic, and we’re happy to have an in-depth conversation with you on it when you’re ready.
Van owners usually have two primary questions before renting out their vans on a peer to peer website. The first question is typically, “How much money can I make?” The second question is most often “What happens if the renter breaks something? Am I covered?”
Yes, you are covered. Check out the link below for an overview of the things you’ll want to consider regarding insurance coverage before renting out your campervan.
You don’t have a van yet?
No problem! You can also purchase a Ford Transit or Sprinter van and have Wandervans install our modular Conversions Kits inside of your new van. Then, we take your van on consignment, manage it, and keep it rented throughout the season. With our kit installed, it’s very easy for us to manage, rent, clean, and service your campervan.
